JOHN W. ROWE STAUNTON, VA John W. Rowe, 80, husband of Marie (Campbell) Rowe, of 508 Betsy Bell Road, died Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born June 6, 1931, in Augusta County, a son of the late Henry Edgar and Bertha May (Reed) Rowe. Mr. Rowe was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. Prior to retirement, Mr. Rowe was employed by Westinghouse-McQuay with 35 years of service. He was a member of Jollivue United Methodist Church and the Staunton VFW Post 2216. In addition to his wife of 57 years, family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Kelly Rowe of New Bern, NC; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Ferne and Larry Conroy of Hawaii, Debra and Scott Dovel of Suwanee, GA, Leigh and Jeff Byrd of Fishersville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roosevelt and Mary Anna Rowe of Verona and Earl and Doris Rowe of Craigsville; a sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and William Berry of Staunton; six grandchildren, Heather Hartsook and her husband, Matt, Kimberly Witman, Amanda Conroy, Kirtley Dovel, Mary Dovel, and Ashleigh Campbell; and four great grandchildren, Hanna, Alex, Collin Jay, and Ryan. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Riser; four brothers, Soloman, Odell, Lewis, and Robert Rowe; and four sisters, Mary, Elizabeth, Gladys, and Helen. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011, in Jollivue United Methodist Church by the Pastor Janet Knott and Rev. Randall Harlow. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Staunton VFW Post 2216. Honorary pallbearers will be friends from McQuay. The family received friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011, in the Henry Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
