John Douglas Snyder

JOHN D. SNYDER STAUNTON, VA…             John Douglas Snyder, 90, of Staunton, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.             He was born September 8, 1928, in Lone Fountain, Virginia, a son of Jesse E. Snyder and Lula (Fisher) Snyder.             Surviving are two nephews, Daniel Snyder and James Snyder, both of Staunton; three nieces, Dr. Jeanne Snyder of Ketchican, Alaska, Patricia Snyder of Nellysford, and Judith Jenkins of Orlando, Florida; two grand nieces, Megan Heatwole of Lynchburg and Emma Jenkins of Orlando, Florida.             John was pre-deceased by his wife, Katherine Josephine “Kitty” Snyder; his parents; a sister, Virginia Christine Snyder; and two brothers, Jesse Snyder, Jr and Roy Buck Snyder.             John graduated from Churchville High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician’s mate on the USS, Joseph P. Kennedy. He was employed by Westinghouse for 20 years and then McQuay for another 20 years. He was fond of the Redskins, NASCAR, Ford trucks, cats, and hamburgers with mayonnaise. His most notable feature was his quiet demeaner and he was quite content to observe life without offering unnecessary commentary. He will be missed by those of us who knew and loved him.             The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018, in the Henry Funeral Home.             A graveside service with military honors will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens on Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton.             Memorials may be made to the Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad 1601 North Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24402 or to the Staunton Augusta ASPCA, P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402.             Condolences may be sent to the family at www.henryfuneralhome.net .
