John Lyle Willis, Sr

JOHN L. WILLIS, SR.GREENVILLE, VA… John Lyle Willis, Sr., 86, husband of Sue (Gibson) Willis, of 123 Greenville School Road, was called to his heavenly home Saturday, November 26, 2016 at his residence. He was born September 8, 1930, in Burnwell, WV, a son of the late Lyle Hansford and Sinda (Bell) Willis.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Frances Sims, and Ernestine Stevens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served during the Korean War. Mr. Willis worked for Westinghouse and then was a corrections officer and retired with 25 years of service.  He was a member of Greenville Baptist Church and went on nine mission trips to Brazil.  John enjoyed watching sports and was a big Yankees fan. In addition to his wife whom he married July 16, 1955, family members include two sons, John L. Willis, Jr. and wife, Ellen, and Brian Willis; a grandson, Keith Andrew Hendricks; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Tom Reynolds.  Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Military honors will be conducted at the grave by the Staunton V.F.W. Post 2216. Friends are welcome to pay their respects at the funeral home during regular business hours; however, the family will receive friends at their home from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family extends a special thanks to two independent caregivers, the administration and staff of Avante Nursing Home of Waynesboro, Care Advantage of Staunton, Hospice of the Shenandoah, and the ones who looked after his care.
