Joyce Maureen Varner

JOYCE M. VARNER STAUNTON, VA Joyce Maureen (Matthews) Varner, 76, died Friday, January 10, 2014 at Kings Daughters Community and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Varner was born on January 5, 1938 in Bedford, England, the daughter of the late Charles and Daisy Matthews. Prior to retiring, she worked at Genesco for 35 years. She is survived by grandchildren, Curtis Wimer and his fiancé Angel Lerz, and Colleen Wimer; two great grandsons, Jamal and Raheem Davis of Verona; two great granddaughters, Madyson Wimer and Honesty Donna Smith; two brothers, Derick Matthews and his wife Pat, and Aubrey Matthews and his wife Lynn, all of Bedford, England. She is also survived by special relatives, Jo and Jr. Wimer, Charles and Geneva Wimer, LeRoy Wimer and Lois, Warren Wimer, and Judy and Otis Strickler. She also leaves behind special friends, Dale Soprano, Shirley Obaugh, Debbie Tanksley, and Mary Losh. Mrs. Varner is preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Wimer, and Donna's father, Harry Wimer. At her request, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2014 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Luke Smith. Burial will be private in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
