JUDITH H. HATCHER  STAUNTON, VA… Judith Rebecca (Hayslett) Hatcher, 73, wife of Paul Lynwood Hatcher, of Staunton, died Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Augusta Health. She was born October 27, 1944 in Clifton Forge, a daughter of the late Homer T., Sr. and Halcie (Maydain) Hayslett. Judy was a graduate of Central High School in Low Moor, a graduate of Bridgewater College and received her Master’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of Virginia. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a teacher by Alleghany County and Staunton City Schools. She was the director of Effie Ann Johnson Nursery. Mrs. Hatcher was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, President of the Thursday Morning Music Club, member of Daughters of the American Revolution, and Ladies Circle 6 at Olivet Presbyterian Church. Judy volunteered at Augusta Health, Western State Hospital, the Salvation Army, and played piano in many area nursing homes. She was president of the Volunteer Services Council at Western State Hospital and on the Community Child Care Center Board.  She was a brilliant educator, an avid gardener, pianist, passionate book reader, and enjoyed time at the beach with Paul. Judy was a prolific letter and card writer and a dedicated mental health advocate.    She was a doting and devoted Grammy to her beloved Lynlee. In addition to her husband, whom she married June 18, 1966, family members include two sons, Jarrett Paul Hatcher and Brandon Lee Hatcher and wife, Sarah; a sister-in-law, Loyce Guy Hayslett; a granddaughter, Lynlee Kate Hatcher; and a number of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Homer T. Hayslett, Jr. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018 in Olivet Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Lee Thomas. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eli Crawford, Kevin Madden, Tyler Crawford, Mark Newlen, Jason Jordan, Teley Tate, Mouse Patterson, Jason Hylton, Mike Madden, Terrell Mickens, and Reggie Waddy. Honorary pallbearers will be former Robert E. Lee Basketball players and coaches. The Family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018 in the Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Thursday Morning Music Club, P. O. Box 953, Staunton, VA 24402 or Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1019 Richmond Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
