June Gayle Campbell

JUNE A. CAMPBELL STAUNTON, VA June Gayle (Armstrong) Campbell passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 23, 2013, at her residence. Born April 15, 1961, she was the youngest child of the late Anna Louise Fitzgerald and Franklin L. Armstrong. June was educated in Staunton schools and graduated from Robert E. Lee. She was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections. She was an avid reader, accomplished cook and lover of animals. June rescued many cats and leaves her special dog "Bru". June leaves a cherished son, Derek Franklin Campbell of Goshen, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Armstrong McCray and special brother-in-law and best friend, Eddie McCray of Middlebrook, VA, with whom she discovered her love of farming. Also survived by her sisters, Carol Armstrong Shifflett (Rick) of Staunton, Betty Armstrong Powers of Lynchburg, VA; a brother, William (Billy) Armstrong of Staunton; many nieces and nephews, Misty McCray-Fletcher (Robbie), Steven McCray (Karman), Brandon and Adam Shifflett, Daniel, Kaitlin and Chase Powers; and great nieces and nephews, Robbie, Tory and Cole Fletcher, Savanna and Tanner McCray, and Sophia and Paxton Powers. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013, at Southside Church of God by Pastor Phillip Morgan. Burial will be private.
