STAUNTON, VA… Jack Harper Wine, age 82, also known as “Starman”, left this world on October 25, 2016 to be with his Lord and Savior. He is now free to roam among the stars that he spent so many countless hours gazing at through his telescopes. He was born July 5, 1934 to Kenneth and Juanita Wine and leaves behind a wife of 61 years, Katherine (Fifer) Wine. Also surviving are two sons, Kirk Wine and wife Betty of Churchville and Steve Wine and husband Benjamin of New York and a brother, William Wine and wife Joan. He loved his two granddaughters, Amber Wine Gibson and her husband Jordan Gibson and especially Jaclyn Wine. Amber’s children, Scarlett and Calvin loved their PawPaw as he loved them. Jack was instrumental in starting several clubs in the area. The Staunton Augusta R/C club where he flew for many years and brought many new flyers to the hobby. Also, the Shenandoah Valley Stargazers in which he was the observatory director in Stokesville and showed many children and adults, the stars in the heavens and his love for God’s creations in the skies. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Verona United Methodist Church by the Revs. Bob Weeks, Ed Pruit, and Jeff Allen. The family will receive friends following the service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Open Door Sunday School Class. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Verona Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 187, Verona, Virginia 24482. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
