John E. Hopp

John Edward Hopp (Butch) age 78, of Augusta County passed away December 31, 2020 from Covid-19 and complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.

John was born September 17, 1942 in Cincinnati, OH, son of the late Richard and Helen Wetterer Hopp. He was also pre-deceased by brother, Richard Hopp, Lake Wales, FL and in-laws, Ralph and Elsie Kyle Dutton, Staunton.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Julia Dutton Hopp; daughter, Deidre (Deedee) Hopp Free and son-in-law, Charles (Chuck) Free, Shiloh, III; granddaughter, Nicole Roop Martinez (Roger) and great granddaughters, Melaina and Davina of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by sisters Nancy (Richard) Maynard of Kingston, TN and Susan Isdepski of LA; sister-in-law, Shirley Hopp; godson, Rusty Hopp; brother-in-law, James T. Dutton, Staunton; and numerous nephews and nieces.

John spent his career in the IT field at Blue Diamond Growers and Delta Dental in Sacramento, CA. Returning to Staunton in 2007, he reconnected with many Robert E. Lee H.S. friends especially his wife’s class of 1962. He enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds, attending Sacramento Kings Basketball games and watching car racing.
