Jon B. Cook, 79, a resident of Grottoes, Va passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at his residence.

A son of the late Bennie H. and Beatrice (Poff) Cook, he was born April 12, 1941 in Roanoke, Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives Marie Ashby Cook and Yvonne Deshaw Cook; brothers Patrick Cook and Curtis Cook.

Surviving are his son, Jon B. Cook II and wife Jessica; one grandson, Jon B. Cook III; two stepdaughters and their families, Leslie Bizilj and Sarah Gopher; brother Mike Cook and wife Nancy; sisters-in-law, Madeline Campbell, Pat Ashby, and Judy Ashby; former daughter-in-law, Tammie Bryant; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Edward and Linda Furrow.

Mr. Cook was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School and the Missouri Auction School. Jon retired after almost 40 years of service as an electrician at DuPont, and many years as an auctioneer in the community.
Earlier in his life Mr. Cook was very active in many civic organizations. He served as a Past President of the Virginia Auctioneers Association. Jon was one of the two original auctioneers for the Virginia Mennonite Relief Sale and Quilt Auction. He also volunteered his time to many other churches and local service organizations through the years. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department and a member of several local car and truck clubs. Jon was an avid antique enthusiast – cars, trucks, tractors, furniture, collectibles.

He was a member of Annex United Methodist Church. Mr. Cook enjoyed attending auctions, spending time with friends and family, and most of all watching his grandson grow and play.

Due to current Covid concerns and restrictions, the services will be private for the family.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
