KATHERINE H. DOZIER STAUNTON, VA Katherine Asbury (Holt) Dozier, 94, of 21 Woodlee Road, died Monday, June 16, 2014, at Brightview at Baldwin Park. She was born September 23, 1919, in Staunton, a daughter of the late Charles A., Jr., and Helen (Holliday) Holt. Mrs. Dozier was a graduate of Mary Baldwin College and received her Masters Degree in Guidance from University of Virginia. Prior to retirement, she was a Counselor and Director of Guidance at Shelburne Junior School from 1957 until 1985 preceded by two years of teaching seventh grade math and science. Active in Trinity Episcopal Church and Community, she served as a junior and senior high church school teacher at Trinity. She participated in activities of Episcopal Church Women, St. Martha's Guild, served on the Trinity Church Vestry several times and was later elected a Trustee. She was honored in a large celebration at Madison Place for her many years of volunteering and participating in church activities hosted by the Episcopal Church Women. She was active in staunton Augusta Church Relief Association (SACRA), Churchwomen United, the Staunton Public Library, the Staunton/Augusta Fine Arts Center, Augusta Medical Center (now Augusta Health) and Deane Holt Auxiliary of King's Daughters Hospital, Augusta Medical Center Auxiliary (now Augusta Health Auxiliary), and volunteered as an assistant in the Trinity Church office. Family members include two sons, Kai Dozier and wife Jan Spiers of Hardwick Mountain and Jack C. Dozier and wife Shirley of Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Helen Deane Dozier of the Blue Ridge near Waynesboro and Mary Dozier of Newark, Delaware; two brothers, Frank T. Holt of Thomasville, Georgia and Charles A. "Knobby" Holt, III and wife Jodie of Charlottesville; four grandchildren, Jeff Dozier, Jody Dozier, Benjamin Butzin-Dozier, and Zachary Butzin-Dozier; step-grandchildren, Lavinia Winegar Gott of Kingsport, TN, LaDonna Winegar-Mowry of Waynesboro, and Anthony Winegar of Waynesboro; four great grandchildren, Isa Julieanna Dozier, Knox Benjamin Dozier, Lincoln Jack Dozier, and Maddox Luke Dozier; godchildren, Elizabeth Holt Worley, Carol Holt Groves, and Kate Worley; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack A. Holt and McHenry Holliday Holt; a sister, Helen Deane Holt; and a sister-in-law, Winnett Holt. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday June 20, 2014 in Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will be private in Thornrose Cemetery.
