Katherine Kirtz Gilbert

KATHERINE K. GILBERT STAUNTON, VA Mary Katherine Kirtz Gilbert, 90, widow of Dr. Fulton Jefferson Gilbert, died at her residence Thursday, August 1, 2013. She was born September 22, 1922 in Staunton, the daughter of the late Russell R. and Mary Mowry Kirtz. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Joan Bailey and Lisa Rosen, both of Staunton; sisters Agnes Gunsalus, Grace Puffenbarger, Louise Massey, and Jeanne Skorupski; and brothers, Paul Kirtz, John Kirtz, and James P. Kirtz. Mrs. Gilbert was a devoted wife and mother. She attended Parkway Wesleyan Church. She was supportive of numerous Christian outreach missions and orphan relief organizations. Surviving is a son, F. David Gilbert and wife Rita (Gallagher) Gilbert of Staunton; daughter, Rebecca (Gilbert) Newlen and husband Gary Newlen of Herndon; five grandchildren; five great grand children; and three sisters: Hallie Dieter of Lyndhurst, Rebecca DeMasters formerly of Waynesboro, and Glenna Carroll of Waynesboro. Services will be held Monday, August 5 at 11:00 A.M. at Parkway Wesleyan Church in Staunton with Dr. Barry Lawson and Rev. R. Douglas Gunsalus officiating and fellowship lunch following. Private burial will be in the Augusta Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Gilbert's grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday at Henry Funeral Home.
