Katherine Ellen Persinger

KATHERINE G. PERSINGER STAUNTON - Katherine Ellen (Grove) Persinger, widow of Allen Lee Persinger, Sr., of 611 East Beverley Street, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. She was born October 24, 1929, in Staunton, a daughter of the late Harry Grove and Lona Belle (Smith) Grove. Mrs. Persinger and her husband purchased the Stonewall Jackson Hotel in 1968. The Persinger family continues to be a co-owner of the hotel, which was renovated and re-opened in 2005. Family members include her daughter, Barbara Ellen Persinger; son, Allen L. Persinger, Jr. and his partner, Gary Nimax; grandson, John "Trey" Persinger Sandow and his fiancée, Laurie Youngs; brother, Carson Boyd Grove of Fulks Run; and dear friend, Kay Nimax. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Hullings. Services will be private in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 20, from 3:30-5:00 pm in the Colonnade Room at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel.
