KATHLEEN S. BISHOP STAUNTON, VA…Kathleen (Swats) Bishop, 78, of 1808 Vinson St., Staunton, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at her residence. She was born October 21, 1938 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late James L. and Ray (Carroll) Swats. She fought a courageous battle with cancer.             Kathleen was a member of the Westview United Methodist Church and was the pianist there for many years. Kathleen was Augusta County’s Personnel Manager under the Board of Supervisors for 25 years, retiring in 2003. She enjoyed dealing with the employees and their needs. Kathleen’s personal interests included reading, yard work and flowers, but her greatest joy was her family. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and also her sister, Judy S. Dingess in 2016. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James W. Bishop of Staunton. Also surviving are her son William J. (Bill) and daughter-in-law Katherine F. (Kathy) Bishop of Staunton and grandson Adam W. Bishop of Waynesboro. She is also survived by a number of nephews and a niece, and a special dog, Spanky. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Henry Funeral Home Chapel in Staunton by Pastor Bobby Campbell and Pastor David Coffey. The family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment will follow at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton. There will be no public viewing. Special thanks to her son Bill and daughter-in-law Kathy for all their care during this time. Henry Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Those desiring, may make a donation in Kathleen’s name to a charity of their choice.
