Kathleen Marshall Tucker

KATHLEEN M. TUCKER STAUNTON, VA Kathleen "Katie" (Marshall) Tucker, 94, widow of Tommy Tucker, of Ingleside Resort, died Friday, April 12, 2014, at Augusta Health. She was born May 6, 1919, in Harmon, WV, the second of five sisters to the late Warren Marshall and Mary Susan (Smith) Marshall. Early in her life, the family moved to Bridgeport, OH where she graduated from High School. Katie attended Elliot's Business College in Wheeling and then worked as a personnel and district manager for McCrory's Department Store, eventually moving to New York City to become personnel director at the corporate office. Katie met her future husband, Tommy Tucker, while working in New York City. The couple settled in Staunton in the 1950's where they owned and operated the Stonewall Jackson Hotel, Ingleside Resort, and the Master Host Inn, all in Staunton, and the Belle Meade Motel in Harrisonburg. She also ran three gifts shops: Little Victorian Gift Shoppe, Christmas and Antique Shop, all at Ingleside, and the Belle Meade Gift Shoppe at Belle Meade in Harrisonburg. Katie initially lived in the Penthouse Suite at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel before moving to her home on the hill next to Ingleside Resort. Katie was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes football fan, enjoyed playing bridge with her dear friends and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a much beloved fixture of the social and business communities of Staunton and her personal style, vibrant personality and generosity will always be remembered. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters LaVelle (Marshall) Lloyd of Bridgeport, OH, Evelyn (Marshall) Munn of St. Clairsville, OH, and Ruby (Marshall) Rambo of Nampa, ID; and her niece Susan (Munn) Britton of Waynesboro. Katie is survived by her youngest sister Jeanette (Marshall) McHugh Halloran and seven nieces and nephews including: Craig Munn of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kathleen (Rambo) Wolford of Atlanta, GA, Timothy Rambo of Nampa, ID, Norman Rambo of Nampa, ID, Mark McHugh of Madison, OH, Kirk McHugh of Columbus, OH, Sue Ann McHugh of Orrville, OH as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Katie is also survived by her step-daughter, Barbara (Tucker) Wallace of Harrisonburg and four step-grandchildren, Tracey (Wallace) Deck, Tessa (Wallace) Early, Tommy Wallace, and Tal Wallace. Katie's memorial service will be held at 11:00 Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Henry Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Thornrose Cemetery immediately following the memorial service. Katie's viewing will be Monday, April 14, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the Henry Funeral Home. Memorial donations in celebration of Katie's life can be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 100 E.
