Katie W. Kirtley

KATIE W. KIRTLEY   STAUNTON, VA… Katie W. Kirtley, 94, of Staunton, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 12:45 a.m. She was born November 27, 1922 in Pendleton County, WV, a daughter of the late John Richard and Arzola (Lambert) Wimer. Prior to retirement, she was employed at Genesco for 31 years. Katie was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.  She was a very special mother and grandmother.  She loved music and was gifted with playing guitar and piano, enjoyed traveling, her garden, feeding her birds and just being outdoors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Richard D. Wade and James Kirtley; a daughter, Patricia Allen; and four brothers, Glendi, Gerald, Vervie, and Luther Wimer.  Surviving include a son, Dane D. Wade and wife Janie of Deerfield; a daughter, Betty Lam and companion Don Carter of Swoope; two step-sons, Marty and Greg Kirtley; step-daughter, Sharon Needham of Richmond; a brother, Curtis Wimer of Churchville; five sisters, Betty Guffey of Staunton, Arlene McManaway of Churchville, Okee Campbell of Mount Crawford, Murtle Falls of Harrisonburg and Brenda Hamilton of Swoope; five grandchildren, Buddy Wade, Davey Lam, Dreama Manning, Roy Kesterson, and Rhonda Winthro; ten great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 in Third Presbyterian Church by Pastor Jacob R. Singleton.  Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be family members. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made to Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, VA 24401. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
