LACY MCCRAY VERONA, VA Lacy McCray, 66, widower of Helen (Proctor) McCray, of 207 Cedar Lane, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at his residence. He was born June 10, 1946, in Fort Defiance, a son of the late Floyd and Annie May (Staubus) McCray. Prior to retirement, he was employed by BSC Asphalt Company with 35 years of service. He loved working outside, riding four wheelers, tractors, and his hobby of welding. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah (Simmons) McCray; three brothers, Jerry, Larry, and Bobbie McCray. Family members include a son, Michael McCray of Broadway; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sam and Gary Harold of Verona and Teresa and Larry Rose of Staunton; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Earl Joe McCray of Staunton, Tracy and Louise McCray of Fort Defiance, and Ray W. McCray of Waynesboro; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lula and Leonard Shull of Bridgewater and Phyllis and Pete Gorsuch of Waynesboro; four granddaughters, Natasha, Ashley, Breanna, and Amya; a great grandson, Jaiden Lee Cross; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend, Charlie Newcomb of New Hope; and special pets, Sissy and Buddy. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2012, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Russell Heinrich. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chris, Shane, Jeremy, Dale, and Colton McCray, and Tony Sorrells. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012, in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
