    LAUREL STUART LLOYD

    October 24, 1930 - February 20, 2012

    LAUREL S. LLOYD STAUNTON, VA Laurel Stuart Lloyd, 81, husband of Emma Jane Lloyd of 367 Stone Branch Road, died on President's Day, Monday, February 20, 2012 at King's Daughters Health and Rehab Center. He was born October 24, 1930 in Palmyra, a son of the late Daniel Hickman and Wanetta (Clemmons) Lloyd. Mr. Lloyd was a decorated seven-year veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Prior to retirement, Laurel had been a driver for Smith's Transfer and Mason-Dixon Freight and Tank Lines, receiving awards from both for a distinguished career of incident-free driving. Laurel enjoyed his annual garden, fishing, and the view of the mountains from his home. His loving devotion to his wife and children was immeasurable. In addition to his wife, family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Neil Stewart and Deanne Lloyd of Paris, TX; three daughters and a son-in-law, Vickie Hinojosa of Stuarts Draft, Sue Ellen Lloyd of Staunton, and Christine and James Arrowood of Mt. Solon; a sister, Mary Louise Prater of Columbia, TN; four grandchildren, Victoria and husband, Drew Bender, Amani Dupree and husband, Bruce Meermans, Matthew Stuart Mawyer, and Shania ("Miss Anne") Miller; great grandchild, Mason Bender; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter Preston Lloyd, Luther James Lloyd, Thomas Hickman Lloyd, and Maurice Lloyd; a sister, Frances Lee Hobson; two grandchildren, Ashley Dawn and Jeremy Levi Stuart Whitaker; and a great granddaughter, Santana June Bender. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Janet Knott. Burial will follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Swoope. Active pallbearers will be Lynwood Dull, Drew Bender, James Arrowood, Matthew Mawyer, Fred Decker, and Janey Cook. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, c/o 704 Carann Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
