LAWRENCE W. HILDEBRAND NEW HOPE, VA Lawrence William Hildebrand, 88, husband of Anna Lee (Sandridge) Hildebrand, of 2056 Knightly Mill Road, died Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. He was born November 27, 1923, in Charlottesville, a son of the late Hunter Houston and Ramona (Harner) Hildebrand. Mr. Hildebrand was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Prior to retirement, Mr. Hildebrand was employed by DuPont with 37 years of service. He was a member of Middle River Church of the Brethren and associate member of Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the Augusta County Service Authority with 28 years of service, having served on the Board of Directors from March 1974 to March 2002, and served as Chairman for 14 terms during his tenure. He was a member of the New Hope Ruritan Club with 51 years of perfect attendance, having served as president, vice president, and secretary, as well as being District Governor and Lt. Governor of the Woodrow Wilson district. In addition to his wife of 66 years, family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Hildebrand of Chestertown, MD, and Terry Scott and Nancy Hildebrand of New Hope; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and JoAnn Hildebrand of Charlottesville; a sister, Florence Lilley of Bel Air, MD; five grandchildren, Michael, Erik, Joseph, and David Hildebrand, and Tiffany Huberts; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harner and Dabney Hildebrand. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Middle River Church of the Brethren Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. in Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Galen Combs. Active pallbearers will be Bill Fretwell, Jarman Fretwell, Owen Harner, John Sandridge, Lewis Whitmer, and Ken Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the New Hope Ruritan Club, all other attending Ruritan members, and members of his Sunday School class. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012, in the Henry Funeral Home.
