Leona Katherine Mynes Campbell STAUNTON, VA Leona Mynes Campbell, 96 of Raphine, slipped away peacefully on October 24, 2014, at Royal Care in Staunton, Virginia, where she had resided for 12 years. She was born on July 6, 1918, in Spotswood, Virginia, and was preceded in death in 1960 by her husband, Milton L. Campbell. Leona worked at the Brownsburg and Rockbridge High School cafeterias. She retired at age 80 as a cafeteria supervisor from Whites Truck Stop in Raphine, Virginia, where she enjoyed and appreciated her many friends and co-workers over the years. Leona was a long time and faithful member of Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Steels Tavern, Virginia, where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Women's Circle, and assisted at Church Camp at Massanutten. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Tony William Campbell; her daughter-in-law Marge W. Campbell; a sister Mabel and her husband David Potter, and sister Mae Mynes Jones. Left to cherish her memory are sons Kenneth M. Campbell of Raphine, Burness "Snap" W. Campbell and wife Margaret of Waynesboro, Virginia, and David W. Campbell and wife Mary of Clifton, Virginia. A brother, Roy Wade Mynes and wife Mary Ann, reside in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She is also survived by five grandchildren and their spouses: Gina and Greg Yoder, Terri and Robert Vailes, Amy and Micah Crews, David and Emily Campbell, and Chad and Ashley Campbell. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be the grandsons and John Howell. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 o'clock on October 29th in Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Rev. Olivia Haney. A memorial service will follow in the Mt. Carmel Church. The family will greet friends at a reception in the Church social hall immediately following the service. The family would like to thank the staff at Royal Care for their love and support provided to Leona and to Hospice of the Shenandoah Valley. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, P O Box 8, Steels Tavern, Virginia 24476. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
