LEONARD L. D`AQUINO MIDDLEBROOK, VA... Leonard “Lenny” Louis D’Aquino, 66, of Middlebrook, VA passed away on March 19, 2018 in Fishersville, VA. He was born on July 31, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Louis and Carmella (Columbo) D’Aquino. Lenny was a member of the carpenters’ union in New York until his retirement and diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. He loved woodworking, mechanics, and teaching his children his trade. He and his family became members of St. Francis Catholic Church in Staunton after he and his family moved to Middlebrook in 1995. When his oldest children attended Guardian Angel Academy, he enjoyed spending time volunteering with the students as a lunchroom monitor and aide. He became a fixture at the school and was loved by many of the students, parents, and teachers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Elizabeth (Schildhorn) D’Aquino; a son, Matthew and wife, Jillian of Greenville, VA; two daughters, Amanda and Catherine, both of Middlebrook; two sisters, Sandra D’Aquino of New Bern, NC, and Luann D’Aquino Montella of Broad Channel, NY; a special, life-long friend, Frank “Sandy” Louise of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY; and many cherished cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher. The D’Aquino family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Rob Marsh for his many years of care and support, his associates Cynthia Almarode, FNP, Rose Burgdorf, FNP, Barry Perkins, PA, and staff members Linda Helmick, Christy Templeton, Autumn Berry, Sandy Reed, and Sheree Fravel, the nurses and aides from Augusta Home Health, Dr. Jack Breaux, and the nurses from Augusta Health Hospital. All are encouraged to wear colors instead of black to the Mass of Christian burial, to be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 118 North New Street, Staunton, VA at 10:00am on Monday, March 26th by Reverend Tom Collins. Visiting hours will be Sunday, 4:00pm-6:00pm at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
