Lois I. Brown

STAUNTON, VA… Lois I. (Layton) Brown, 81, wife of Carl D. Brown, of 1900 Springhill Road, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at her residence. She was born September 14, 1934, in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Elmer F. and Florence (Johns) Layton. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her husband of 61 years, family members include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Randy and Frances Brown of Verona, Robert and Charlotte Brown of Greenville, Ricky and Donna Brown of Churchville, and Kevin D. Brown of Verona;  four daughters and three sons-in-law, Tammie and Jay Hawkins of Churchville, Teresa Campbell of Stuarts Draft, Janice and Jeff Taylor of Greenville, and Julie and Donnie Minter of Goshen;  19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters; two brothers; and her beloved pets, Holly and Carrie. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vickie L. Brown; two grandsons, Brandon and Joshua Minter; one brother; and two sisters. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Mr. Daniel Pritchett.  Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her four sons and her oldest grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016 in the funeral home and other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
