STAUNTON, VA Louis Alexander Calloway, Sr., 79, widower of Edmonia Louise (Johnson) Calloway, formerly of 101 Caroline Street, died Friday, November 21, 2014, in the Salem VA Hospital. He was born March 21, 1935, in Augusta County, a son of the late Lacy Johnson and Willie May Calloway. He was the Valedictorian of his High School class at Booker T. Washington. Mr.Calloway was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. Mr.Calloway was employed by DuPont and then went to work for Terry Court Properties. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Harrisonburg. He was the owner of "The Shop". He was a father figure in his neighborhood and community. His family came first. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters. Family members include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Louis, Jr., and Crystal Calloway, Dariek and Tinera Calloway, Eariek Calloway, Quincy Calloway; a daughter, Tammy Calloway of Staunton; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilson E. and Margaret Calloway of Chandler, Arizona; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia Strother, Jane Bell, and Charlotte Smith; thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a lifelong buddy, Earl Turnbough. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jim Bell. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 340. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2014, in the funeral home.
