LUCILLE B. CROOKSHANKS VERONA, VA Lucille Evelyn Brooks Crookshanks of Verona passed away at her residence on October 29, 2015 after a period of declining health. She was a patient served by Hospice of the Shenandoah. Lucy was born on March 9, 1932, a daughter of the late Reverend Cash Richard and Myrtle Brooks, of Wyoming County, WVA. In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Crookshanks in 1996. Also, a sister, Naomi Domi of WVa and 3 brothers, Albert Brooks of Beaufort, SC, Bill Brooks of Orlando, FL and Donald Brooks of Austin, TX. Lucy is survived by 5 children and their spouses, Catherine & Bill Bare of Richfield, NC, Ruth & Charles Smith of Mt. Sidney, Douglas & Christie Crookshanks of Verona, Cindy & Richard Burdett of Wake Forest, NC and Richard & Lianne Crookshanks of Barren Ridge, as well as 9 grandchildren & spouses; Wendi & Dwight Bradshaw of Salisbury, NC, Steven & Whitney Miller of Columbia, VA, Jessica & Kyle Herold of Orlando, FL, Misty Crookshanks of Verona, Shawn Crookshanks of Grottoes, Chad & Jennifer Crookshanks of Weyers Cave, Brian & Samantha Burdett serving in the Coast Guard stationed in Michigan, & Anderson & Sherylynne Crookshanks of Barren Ridge. Additionally, Lucy has 12 great-grandchildren and one surviving sister, Charlotte Godby and her husband Jennings Lee of Polk City, FL, and several nieces and nephews. A member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years, she was involved in all aspects of church ministry. Lucy's love for people and open heart and home has made a huge difference in the lives of many, and her love for gardening and sharing her bounty has blessed many tables over the years. She has always been mission minded, serving others here at home, and traveling to areas hit by hurricanes and tornados representing the Augusta Baptist Association. After attending BRCC and receiving certification, she worked as secretary for the newly formed Augusta Baptist Association for over 10 years, beginning May 22, 1979. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends at Henry Funeral Home on Sunday, November 1 from 5 - 7 pm. The funeral service will be held at Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Verona at 11 am Monday, November 2, officiated by Pastor Bill Davis followed by internment at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Laurel Hill Baptist Church in memory of Lucy Crookshanks.
