LUCY B. MEADE STAUNTON, VA Lucy Ann (Burnley) Meade, 86, widow of William Everard Meade, Jr., of Staunton, died Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Augusta Health. She was born April 28, 1927, in Charlottesville, a daughter of the late Seth and Ruth (Harrington) Burnley. She graduated from Lane High School class of 1945 and the University of Virginia class of 1949. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Meade was employed by McSwain Elementary School as a librarian. She had also taught English at Lee High School and was a librarian at Stuart Hall. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and also served as an elder. In addition to her husband of 45 years, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Burnley and Elizabeth Burnley Smith and a brother, Seth Burnley, Jr. Mrs. Meade is survived by her four children, Katherine Meade Acampora and husband, Anthony Acampora, William Everard Meade III and wife, Barbara Meade, Martha Meade Tillen and husband, Alexander Tillen, and Mary Ruth Meade; and six grandchildren, William Arthur Meade, Anthony Everard Acampora, Timothy Andrew Meade, Alison Meade Acampora, Peter Alexander Tillen and Katherine Harrington Tillen. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Mary Johns. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her four grandsons and her two sons-in-law. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014, in First Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations may be made to Augusta Regional SPCA, 33 Archery Lane, Staunton, VA 24401, or to First Presbyterian Church, 100 E. Frederick Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
