STAUNTON, VA Margaret (Pratt) Sproul died on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Born in Kenilworth, England in 1920, she was married to Archibald Sproul, who preceded her in death in 2005. She and her husband met in England, where he was recuperating after having been wounded during the Normandy invasion. They were married in New York in 1946, and made their home in Staunton. A member of Trinity Church, she was involved in a number of charitable and civic organizations, including Hunter McGuire School and The Augusta Garden Club. Mrs. Sproul was an avid gardener and loved to entertain - her parties were legendary. She assisted her husband in starting a business in Indonesia, where she acquired a love for Asian art. She and her husband traveled extensively, collecting artifacts from all over the world. In their retirement years, they designed their home in Deerfield on the Calf Pasture River to showcase their collections. Mrs. Sproul was absolutely devoted to her family and loved nothing more than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She is survived by three children, Margaret Cheever of Riverside, Connecticut, Archibald Sproul of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Sara Battin of Staunton, Virginia, and six grandchildren, David Cheever, Hannah Cheever, Ian Sproul, Stuart Sproul, Mark Battin and Frances Battin Joseph. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Church or the Augusta Regional SPCA. Following a private inurnment, a memorial service will be held at Trinity Church on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 11:00 am.
