MARTHA M. THOMPSON  STAUNTON, VA… Martha Naomi (Monroe) Thompson, 90, widow of Glenn Thompson, of Staunton, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at her residence. She was born March 30, 1926, in Charlottesville, a daughter of the late Howard H. and Lottie (Painter) Monroe. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Western State Hospital as a psychiatric aide. Martha was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.  She loved to embroidery, read, baseball, and being with her family. Family members include a son, Donald G. Thompson of Staunton; a daughter, Brenda Kay Wimer and fiancé, Ed Reeves, of Staunton; a daughter-in-law, Beverly B. Thompson; grandchildren, Beth Wood, Eric Thompson (Crystal), Tonya Shifflett, Jeremy Thompson, Shannon Wimer, Jason Wimer (Stephanie), and Jennifer Thompson; foster grandchildren, Brandy Bartlett (Wes), Sherry Morris (Scott), and Stephanie Wiseman; great grandchildren, Jacob Wood, Joshua Wood (Taylor), Kayla Baugh and fiancé, Ryan McClamroch, Jessica Thompson, LaShawn Crawford, Coy Wimer, Tyler Wimer (Kimmy), Skye Wimer, Nyssa Stapleton, Justine Thompson, Jonah Thompson, Lexi Wimer, Trevon Thompson, Jaden Wimer, Charlee Wimer, Michael Thompson, Cheyaine Bruneing, Raven Smith, Logan Shiflett, Cora Wiseman, Scottie Morris, and Brittany Morris; great-great grandchildren, Amy Wood and Gabriel Thompson; special niece, Loretta Allen of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles “Butch” Thompson; a foster daughter, Bonnie M. Wiseman; three brothers; and five sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Rod Ronneberg.  Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Jacob Wood, Joshua Wood, Shannon Wimer, Jason Wimer, Eric Thompson, and Jonah Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home or other times at her daughter’s residence, 111 W. Liberty Street, Staunton.
