Major Martin J. Wasielewski, Sr. Retired USMC August 8, 1953 – June 5, 2018 Major Martin James Wasielewski, Sr., Retired, USMC, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 8, 1953 and passed away in his home in Waynesboro, Virginia on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. He was 64 years old. Martin graduated from William Tennent High School and later pursued his education through Florida Bible College, William Jennings Bryan College, the United States Marine Corps Institute, the United States Naval War College, and the United States Army Advanced Engineer School. Martin, affectionately known as “Major,” served our country through the United States Marine Corps for twenty-one years. He retired in 1998 with the rank of Major while stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico. His specialties included communication, marksmanship, and engineering. Medals and commendations include the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. In 1990 he was deployed to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Desert Shield during the First Gulf War. Following retirement, he proudly wore a Marine Corps Veteran cap to represent his service. In addition to his love of the Corps, his country, and family, Martin also cared deeply for his pets. He affectionately named his property Stone Spring Farm where he raised Andalusian-Arabian horses, Labrador Retrievers, and several cats. His favorite sports team was the Philadelphia Eagles who he cheered to victory in Super Bowl 52 a few months before his death. Martin will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Matthew and his wife Amanda, Martin Jr. and his wife Liana, by his seven grandchildren Eli, Andrew, Lydia, Erin, Grady, Elam, and Abram, and by his brothers and sisters Susan, Robert, Michael, James, Nancy, Stephen, Cathy, Deborah, and William. Martin will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Martin will be laid to rest on a future date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. His lifelong friend, Jim O’Brien, Esquire will officiate the service that will include full Military Funeral Honors in appreciation for his service to our country. In appreciation for their assistance with rehoming Martin’s pets, donations can be made to the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center or Checkpoint One.
