MARY C. FISHER STAUNTON, VA… Mary Louise (Coiner) Fisher, 77, of 1006 Chestnut Ridge Road, Staunton, peacefully transitioned into life eternal while at home with family on May 24th, 2018. Mrs. Fisher was born January 23rd, 1941, in Staunton, Virginia, to Blair Carrington and Ruth Kennard Coiner. She graduated from Queens College (now Queens University of Charlotte) with a BA in English in 1962 where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She taught English at John Randolph Tucker High School, Henrico County, Virginia and Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton. For many years she was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Staunton, where she served as elder and trustee. Mrs. Fisher’s life-long love of reading led her to volunteer through the Staunton Public Library as librarian to the Staunton/Augusta County Jail. For over 21 years she distributed books to the inmates. Her love and concern for the environment led her to support many environmental groups. She was working to restore native plants in the woods and pasture around her home. She cherished her family and enjoyed many deep friendships over the years. She had been especially close to her dear friend, Mary Lillian Frye who died in 2012. She loved art, travel, playing the dulcimer, and the Democratic Party. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Arthur J. Fisher, Jr. and her brother, Blair Coiner. Family members include two beloved sons, Arthur J. (Bo) Fisher, III, and his wife, Missy; David Carrington Fisher and his wife, Lori; and seven beloved grandchildren: Riley, Evan, Arthur J. IV, Anna, Benton, Abby and Collin; a great grandson Jay; a brother-in-law, John Tasker of Alpena, Michigan; a sister-in-law Dawn Smith in Ruskin, FL; a cousin Mary McDermot “Susie” Ritchie of Staunton.
