Mary Lillian Cook

MARY H. COOK STAUNTON, VA… Mary Lillian (Hays) Cook, 92, widow of Herman Earl Cook, of Royal Care Assisted Living, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Augusta Health, Fishersville, and is now united with her husband, who passed the same day three years ago. She was born July 16, 1924, in Vesuvius, a daughter of the late George and Gracie (Hite) Hays. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Cook was employed by DuPont. She was a member of Jollivue United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Kenneth; and two sisters, Pauline and Clara. Family members include two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and Wayne Swisher of Walkers Creek and Sherry Cook of Staunton; a brother, Elwood Hays of Verona; a sister, Elaine Cash of Vesuvius; five grandchildren, Ryan Miller (Angela), Megan Miller, Justin Swisher (Jesse Resnick), Laura Swisher, and Caitlin Payne (DJ); and five great grandchildren, Mason, Steele, Rylan, Wyatt, and Carter. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Janet Knott. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren and spouses. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2016, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jollivue United Methodist Church, 551 Lee Jackson Highway, Staunton, VA 24401. The family would like to thank her two special caregivers, Angela and Joan and also the staff at Augusta Health.
