MARY M. GOODLOE STAUNTON, VA Mary Louise Goodloe passed away on April 28, 2011. The daughter of Judge John E. and Ethel Miller was born in Searcy, Arkansas on January 4, 1920. She attended high school in Washington, D.C. when her father was a U. S. Congressman and U. S. Senator, but graduated as the Valedictorian from Searcy High School in 1937. She was a member of the National Honor Society and a student of voice, piano, and violin. Mary Louise was a graduate of Sullins College and The University of Arkansas. She married Gilbert Porter Gammill, Jr., of El Dorado, Arkansas, who was killed in World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. She then married Breckenridge C. Goodloe on August 28, 1948 and moved to Staunton. She was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, John E. Miller, Jr. Mrs. Goodloe is survived by her son, John Porter Gammill of Staunton; her daughter, Kim Goodloe Rochow of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her three granddaughters, Somer Rochow, Lindsey Rochow Nelson and her husband, Kyle, and Breck Rochow, all of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Dottie Ann Goodloe and Phyllis Miller; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Goodloe was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Augusta Garden Club, the Garden Club of Virginia, the Needlework Guild, the Country Club of Staunton Ladies Golf Association, and the Thursday Morning Music Club. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her interest and knowledge of all sports. Mary Louise was an avid golfer and loved the game of bridge. She loved to travel and took many trips during her lifetime with friends and family. Her family would like to express their thanks to her loving and dear caregivers, Linda Warren, Eleanor Jeffers, Donna Nichols, Gloria Halpin, Patty Motley, Sharon Betlej, Dottie McChesney, Leigh Wells, Mary Koogler, and Sheryl Dove. Also many thanks to B. J. Wells and Roger and Pamela Boles. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, in Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Stephanie M. Sault. There will be no public viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 953, Staunton, VA 24401 or to Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad, 1601 North Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401, or to a charity of ones choice.
