MARY F. HANGER STAUNTON, VA Mary Katherine (Fisher) Hanger, 98, of 130 Bellview Street, Staunton, widow of the late Joseph A. Hanger, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at home. She was born June 8, 1916, in Augusta County, daughter of the late Samuel Fisher and Hulda (Jarvis) Fisher of Spottswood, VA. In 1934 she completed High School in Spottswood; and was married to Joe in 1937. She briefly worked in Staunton and Lynchburg, then for the Marriott Corp. in Washington, D.C. During WWII, she worked at Glen Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, MD. She and Joe operated Hanger's Country Store in Steeles Tavern for 16 years. She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses for 70 years. She was a wonderful cook and gardener, and loved her kitties. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Steele's Tavern at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 by Tom Jones. Pallbearers will be Christian Ordewald, Matthew Ordewald, David Ordewald, Jed Dewey, Aaron Richert and Christopher Henkel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the SPCA, P.O. Box 2014, Staunton, VA 24402, Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad, 1601 North Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401, or the worldwide work of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1868 Springhill Road, Staunton, VA 24401. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Mary was a much-loved friend to many, and will be deeply missed. The earth was a more beautiful place because of her presence.
