MARY J. JARVIS STAUNTON, VA Mary Elizabeth (Johnson) Jarvis, 90, widow of James Homer Jarvis, of 327 Mary Gray Lane, Staunton died Friday, May 13, 2011 at the residence of her daughter, Carrie. She was born April 24, 1921 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late James Edward and Mary Jane (Strickler) Johnson. Mrs. Jarvis was employed by Ritenour Nursing Home for 26 years and retired from Western State Hospital. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Henry Johnson and James Edward Johnson, Jr.; three sisters, Maggie Spitler, Margie Bell Johnson, and Haddie Bell Johnson; and a grandson, Greg White. Family members include a son, Thomas Lee Jarvis of Staunton and his friend, Jeanie Bowman; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Walter White of Deerfield, Carrie and Benny Whitesell of Staunton, and Sarah and Fred Lotts of Crimora; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Elizabeth Johnson, Voynt Bill Johnson, and Harry and Dolly Johnson; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Larry Smith, Shirley and Frank Hall, and Eva and Morris Cook; a sister-in-law, Hazel Earhart; grandchildren, Mary Ann White, Carlton White and his wife, Kim, Carol Hanger and husband Mark, Walter White, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, Jennifer Cline and her husband, Robbie, Kim Wilson and her husband, Ralph, Gina Leach and her husband, Chris, Dana Lowe, Sherry Whitesell, and Tina Pack and her husband, Garry; thirteen great grandchildren; and five great, great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at Third Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jack B. Wilkers, pastor of Third Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in McKinley United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Carlton White, Walter White, Jr., Robbie Cline, Weston Cline, Garry Pack, and Jim Rankin The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p. m. today, Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Henry Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Shenandoah, Dr. Margaret Siman and Rev. Jack B. Wilkers for their care and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, VA 24401 or to Hospice of the Shenandoah, P. O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939.
