MAXINE S. NUTTY  STAUNTON, VA… Maxine (Smiley) Nutty, 91, known to many family and friends as “Pooh”, of 707 Fisher Circle, Staunton, went to her heavenly home on Monday, November 13, 2017 at her residence. She was born May 25, 1926 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late James D., Sr., and Willie Mae (Fox) Smiley of Raphine. Maxine worked at Genesco for 39 years before retiring. She cared for several children in her home after retirement. She will always be remembered as a hardworking, loving, and compassionate mother and friend to many. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Sue Reeder and David Reeder and Tammy Renee Nutty and Richard Watts; a son, Glenn Douglas Nutty; a step-daughter, Martha Ann Harris Nutty Fitzgerald; a beloved granddaughter, Mackenzie Renee Watts; four sisters, Phyllis Gibson, Betty Huffman, Patsy Crosby, and Alice Shull; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Smiley, Dee Smiley, and Shirley Smiley; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn J. Nutty; beloved daughter, Sandra Kay Smiley; and five brothers, James, Jr., Kenneth, Samuel, Wallace and Joe Smiley. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bobby Campbell. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be Tony Crosby, Jimmy Blackwell, Brian Supinger, Andrew Pullin, Albert Deaver, Jr., and Albert Deaver, III. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2017. Viewing for family and friends will be available up until 5 p.m. on Friday.  Memorial donations may be made to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939 or Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.  The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Maxine’s caregivers, Cheryl Dove and Missy Edmonds, her loving family and friends over the years, and to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
