MELVIN L. HOWELL WAYNESBORO, VA Melvin Franklin Lee Howell, 86, husband of Juanita Ruby (Shifflett) Howell, of 74 Sir Robin Road, died Thursday, January 10, 2013, at his residence. He was born July 21, 1926, in Augusta County, a son of the late Eugene Samuel and Rachel Marie ( Fultz) Howell. Prior to retirement, Mr. Howell was employed by Reynolds Metals for 47 years. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra L. and Robert Puffenberger of Staunton and Deborah J. and Denis Umidi of Waynesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell Lee and Amy Bierfiedt Howell of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Ellen Howell of New Hope and Lester and Carolyn Howell of Verona; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marquerite Howell and Ruby Howell, both of New Hope, and Ruth and Paul Robinson of Fishersville; four grandchildren, Stephanie Furr, Randi and Derek Almond, Christie Flesher, and Victoria Howell; and four great grandchildren, Rachael Kerley, Trevor Almond, Piper Almond, and Sydney Furr. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013,in New Hope United Methodist Church by the Rev. R. Douglas Gunsalus. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be The Men's Club. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2013,in the Henry Funeral Home.
