MICHAEL W. WHEELER VERONA, VA Michael Wayne Wheeler, 52, husband of Penny Wheeler of 11 Mountain View Drive, died surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Augusta Health. He was born October 7, 1961, in Staunton, a son of Charles E. and Ruth Ann (Fitzgerald) Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler was employed as a Store Manager by Fisher Auto Parts in Lexington. He loved coaching softball, was an avid outdoorsman, and loved nothing more than being with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Verona Volunteer Fire Department and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. In addition to his parents and wife of 29 years, family members include his maternal grandmother, Ruth Fitzgerald; two daughters, Amanda Marie Wheeler and Kayla Michael Wheeler, both of Verona; his pride and joy, granddaughter, Michaila Renee Colbert; a sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and David Bottenfield of Waynesboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Christopher "Chris" and Rebecca Wheeler of Verona; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2014 in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church by Monsignor Andrew Cason and the Rev. Russell Heinrich. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Coach Christy Shelton and the Softball Team at Mary Baldwin College and the Verona Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, August, 31, 2014 in the Henry Funeral Home.
