Mildred C. Young

Staunton, VA… Mildred Christine (Cales) Young, 92 , widow of George Andrew (Jack) Young Sr., passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018, surrounded by the love of her daughter, Jill, and her adored “Lovebug” granddaughter Windy who were at her bedside holding her hands and stroking her hair as she passed into eternity. Our beloved and beautiful Ma/MaMa was born February 27, 1926 in Augusta Springs, Va.  She was the daughter of the late Paige Russell and Arietta (Fridley) Cales.  Mildred was raised from an early age by her great uncle, Hub Marks and her great aunt, Nellie Mae Marks, both who simply called her “Baby”. Immediate family members include a son, George A. Young, Jr. and his wife Jane Young of St. Louis, MO, and daughter Jill Garcia and her husband, Bill Garcia of Roseville, CA.  She leaves four grandchildren, her adored “Lovebug” Windy (Rick) Sheeley in Staunton, her grandson, Lee (Neile) Senger in Edgewater, FL, her granddaughter and namesake, Christine (Alec) Cohen in Antelope, CA, and youngest grandson, Jacob Young in Oregon.  Great grandmother to Alex (Joelle) Smyth, and Nick (Lysandra Capone) Smyth.  Great grandchildren Sophia and Jack Cohen, and one great-great grandson, Brysen Smyth.  She is survived by her brother-in-law, William F. Young, Jr., a sister-in-law, Joan Young, cousin, Andrew Brown (Judy), who has been a loyal and faithful friend.  She is also survived by a special niece, Nancy Anderson and very special nephew, Paul Blakely.    Also remembered are her very special friends, Thelma and Linda.  Our Ma/MaMa was one of a kind.  She always told people “I’m just an ol’ country girl”. Yes, she was.... but she was so very much more to those who loved her.  Rest In Peace, our beautiful Ma/MaMa A viewing will be available 10:30-10:45am on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Henry’s Funeral Home for those who wish to say a final good-bye, followed by a short graveside service and internment at the Young family plot in Thornrose cemetery.
