Marguerite P. Welcher

Jesus took the hand of Marguerite P. Welcher (Granny) of 2412 Parkhill Road, Staunton on Monday, November 30, 2020 and gently led her into her heavenly home to be reunited with her loved ones. She is survived by a son, Mark E. Welcher; a daughter, Marcella M. Welcher; granddaughters, Michaela Welcher, Mariah Welcher, Montana Welcher, Marnee Powell; grandson, Mason Powell; and two great granddaughters, Adrianna Bryant and Kennedi M. Powell.

Ms. Welcher had retired from Western Staunton Hospital as an RN Coordinator and continued to work part-time for a number of years. Past employment had included Kings Daughters Hospital as a LPN, office of Dr. John Todd, Life Insurance Company of Virginia Customer Service and the previous Haden’s Furniture as Interior Designer and Sales.

Ms. Welcher had attended Brandt’s School of Business, graduated from School of Practical Nursing at Valley Tech, held a certificate from the Chicago School of Design and was a graduate of Blue Ridge Community College RN degree program. She had held certification in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing. Ms. Welcher also served in the IRR United States Army Nurse Corp. as First Lieutenant. She was a past member of the Virginia Association, holding offices on the Nominating Committee for several terms. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

During the days (late sixties) when there was not the expanded Kiwanis Baseball as it exits today and all games were played on two fields at 4 p.m., it was difficult to get men to coach. Ms. Welcher called the boys together (including her son, Mark) and with the help of some other parents, coached the team for two years. The team finished in first place both years; once winning a trip to see a professional game in Baltimore. They were 11 and 12 year old boys who played their heart out for a woman coach. She was very proud of them.

For years, Ms. Welcher enjoyed being a part of the Lions Club yearly shows. She played different parts to include singing, dancing, and one year, co-wrote the show being the assistant director.

Faith and family were very important to her. She was a loving mother and granny. She enjoyed oil painting, traveling, and cooking, however spending time with her family was a priority. She had said that the main reason she retired was to make memories with her grandchildren. This she has done.

Private graveside services will be held at her request or those her children may invite. Henry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The service is to be conducted by Pastor Bobby Campbell. There will be no formal visitation or public viewing as requested by Ms. Welcher, however, feel free to sign the guest book. In lieu of flowers, food, or visitation, memorials may be made to the youth program at Calvary Baptist Church.
