Marie M. Ellinger

Marie Augusta McCune Ellinger, 91, of 313 Grubert Ave., Staunton, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at King’s Daughters Community Health and Rehab Center.

She was born August 13, 1928 in Fishersville, a daughter of the late Vernon Coiner and Lettie Virginia (Sanger) McCune.

Marie was a graduate of Fishersville High School and received a Practical Nursing Degree from Sheltering Arms Hospital in Richmond in 1948.

Marie worked in several aspects of nursing in her nursing career, starting out at the old King’s Daughters Hospital on Frederick Street and moved with them to the new hospital on Augusta Street. She also worked for Dr. Putney, Dr. Coughlan and Dr. Manning of Staunton Surgical Associates. She was working at Ruxton Nursing Home full time and then part time at Oak Hill Nursing Home. She retired in 2006 with 56 years of nursing.

On October 18, 1950 she married William Edgar “Bill” Ellinger. They celebrated 65 ½ years together before his death on May 21, 2016.

In the 1950’s she was president of Area Nine Practical Association in Virginia. She conducted meetings to 180 Registered Practical Nurses in her area keeping them abreast on new developments for LPN’s. She also attended Blue Ridge Community College taking a course in Medical Terminology.

She was a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church serving on numerous committees, also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 13 serving on numerous committees.

Marie enjoyed traveling with her husband, bowling, knitting, and helping others.

Family members include one sister, Betty Lou McCune Tutwiler and husband, Elwood, of Maryland; her sister-in-law, Freda McCune; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert “Bobby” McCune; her sister, Joyce McCune Davis; a brother-in-law, Marshall Davis.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery by Pastor William T. Stewart, II.

Friends may call the Henry Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
