Marie Shiflet Wood

Marie Shiflet Wood Marie Shiflet Wood was born September 3, 1928 in Staunton, VA to William Clarence and Annie Riley Shiflet. She graduated from Beverly Manor High School and Dunsmore Business School. She retired from Virginia Department of Highways after 37 years of service. She enjoyed shopping, baking, flower arranging, and spending time with family and friends. She was a lifetime member of Hebron Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and was active for many years.  Survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Rick Burton and step grandchildren Josh Burton, Tara Kuk and her husband Mike Kuk and their son Kellan, all of Florida, sister Patricia Bosserman, brother W. C. Shiflet Jr.,  and sixteen nieces and nephews. Preceded by her parents, her husband of 64 years Curtis Wood, 3 brothers William “Ray” Shiflet, Marshall Shiflet, and Moffett Shiflet, and 4 sisters Irene Adkison, Elizabeth Runkle, Helen Wood and Kathleen Gilmer. The daughter would like to thank Dr. Rob Marsh for his compassionate care for Marie. A special thank you to her caregivers, Glenna Jones, Linda Harris, Nancy Marshall, Dixie Peltier, and Sue Shiflet. Their love and caring for Mom was a blessing. After her move to Florida, we were blessed with the support and care of the Harbor Chase Memory Unit caregivers and staff. Active pallbearers: Dwight Wood, Eddie Wood, Dwayne Wood, Larry Mayer, James Wenger, Rick Shiflet, David Hewitt, and Mike Dundas. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 in Thornrose Cemetery. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 in Hebron Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hebron Presbyterian Church, 423 Hebron Road, Staunton, VA 24401. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
