Mary Patricia (Crandall) Huff

PAT C. HUFF STAUNTON, VA…    Mary Patricia (Crandall) Huff, 96, widow of James L. Huff, died Thursday, August 10, 2017, at her residence, The Legacy at North Augusta.    She was born July 26, 1921 in St. Joseph, Missouri, a daughter of the late Leroy Vernon and Marie (Goodloe) Crandall.    She was a member of Swansboro Baptist Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. After moving to Virginia she attended Verona United Methodist Church.   She was known to her friends and family as Pat and she was a people person.  She had numerous friends from all walks of life.  She encouraged all of us to stretch out and grow and she did that herself.  She loved adventure and traveled extensively.  She taught Sunday school and English as a Second Language.  She was also an entrepreneur.  She had a private kindergarten for a number of years.  And she was an amazing cook and hostess.  Anyone in the neighborhood or a friend knew they could come to her with their problems and get wise counsel.  Secrets were safe with her.  Pat loved to play Bridge and other games and usually she beat us!  But best of all she was a loving wife and great mother and grandmother.  When many were sitting in their rocking chairs, she was dancing or going down the water slide with the grandchildren.  She influenced her family in good ways that we will still be acknowledging in years to come.  She was able to do all these things and live the life she did because of her faith in Jesus.  We are so blessed knowing she is safe with him today.    In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Huff; and a grandson, Jonas Estes.    Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Elizabeth Huff of Winsor, North Carolina; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Harold Estes of Lufkin, Texas and Barbara and Dave Alexander of Staunton; two grandchildren, Eric Estes and Mary Pat Fleming; and five great grandchildren.    A private graveside service will be conducted in Mars Hill, North Carolina.   Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Oriental Class, 614 W. Corbett Ave., Swansboro, NC 28584.    Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
