Mary Williams Dransfield

Middlebrook resident, Mary Elizabeth Williams Dransfield, wife of Devon Wesley Dransfield has moved on to her "next great adventure" in Heaven. Always a "girl on the go", Mary loved life, her family and friends and her animals. Born in Augusta County on September 12, 1989, she was the beloved daughter of James Elisha Williams, III and Cynthia Utz Williams of Greenville who survive her. Mary attended Riverheads Elementary School, Beverly Manor Middle School and Riverheads High School where she was not only Salutatorian to her lifelong friend, Ashley Kyle, but was a three-year lettered athlete as the Varsity Soccer Team goalie (All-State Goalie for two years running). She also played Varsity Basketball and was active in the National Honor Society, the FFA where she received her State FFA degree, the Middlebrook 4H Livestock Club, the Bethel Church Youth Group and the Market Animal Show where she showed from age 8 onward. Mary also found great pleasure in her Senior Mentorship as a Cave Guide at Grand Caverns. A Hokie "Legacy", she made her own mark as she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2011 from the Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a BS in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. She continued on to Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014 and passed her Board Certification on the first attempt. Offered numerous opportunities in her field, she chose to return "home" to Augusta County and practice with The Barren Ridge Physical Therapy Group first in Fishersville and subsequently in Stuarts Draft where she was popular with her patients for her skills and direct, caring personality. Mary and Devon married in August of 2014 and settled into a "storybook life" enjoying hard work, good friends and the company of local family and those in West Virginia. She loved animals, flowers, reading, antiquing, her house and the life she was building with her "perfect match", Devon. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Tessa Williams; father and mother-in-law, Don and Pam Dransfield and brother-in-law, Ian Dransfield of Union, West Virginia; grandmother, Dorothy Utz; Uncles and Aunts, Joe and Sally Williams, Mac and Emily Williams, Jerry and Donna Utz; cousins, Sarah, Katie and Jim Williams, Jonah and Samuel Williams, Jennifer Utz Porter (Kevin), Alex and Jake Porter, and Caitlin Utz; a host of second and third cousins including McKay Borden, Anne Rosen, Lucy Hanger, Eleanor Fall, Philip Fall, Carol Fall and Joan Buckle; and special four-legged child, "Tuff". Mrs. Dransfield was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim and Charlotte Williams, and grandfather John Utz. A Celebration of Mary's life will be held at 3:00 pm at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Sunday, June 14 followed by a reception at the Williams' home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10014 (JDRF.com) or to the Bethel Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 563 Bethel Green Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
