NELLIE W. HOWDYSHELL STAUNTON, VA Nellie Lee "Jo" (Woods) Howdyshell, 70, of 2392 Cole Avenue, died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at her residence. She was born August 5, 1944, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Harry Wallace and Mamie Elizabeth (Benson) Woods. She was a member of Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren. Family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary L. and Tina Back and Richard E. Back, all of Staunton; a brother, Paul Woods; three sisters, Shirley Thorne and Betty Carpenter, both of Staunton, and Elizabeth Puffenbarger of Stuarts Draft; three grandchildren, Ashley Back, Jason Back, and Patricia Ingram; five great grandchildren; and a special niece, Junie Strothers. She was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Woods. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, in Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Whitney Parrish. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Josh Sparks, Charlie Thorne, Marvin E. Back, Bob Roberts, Mike Thorne, and Jeff Thorne. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 in the Henry Funeral Home.
