WAYNESBORO, VA… Nelson Warren Ryder, 87, husband of Fannie Virginia (Smith) Ryder, of January Drive, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at UVA Medical Center. He was born on January 19, 1929 in Williamsville, a son of the late William Ellis and Hazel (Ryder) Ryder. Mr. Ryder retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and served in the Korean War. He attended Faith Worship Center. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Mark Loyd of Staunton, Susan and Don Hicklin of Stuarts Draft, and Elaine and Matthew Diana of Reading, PA; six grandchildren, Siobhan Bodkin, Megan Loyd, Hailey and Michael Hicklin, and Madison and Jordan Diana, four great grandchildren, Dyllon Ward, Ollie Griffith, Jayzlynn Griffith and Vincent Woodson; a stepdaughter; April Toland; a stepson, Monty Seldy; fourteen step-grandchildren; twenty step-great grandchildren; three brothers, Jim, Clayton and Nick Ryder; and a sister, Joyce Eckard of Churchville. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Ann (Patterson) Ryder. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dennis Bradley and Sarah Locke. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Graveside rites will be conducted by Augusta-Staunton V.F.W. Post #2216. Active pallbearers will be sons-in-law and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 in the funeral home.
