NITA J. GIROUX WAYNESBORO, VA Nita Kay (Johnson) Giroux, 69, of 717 Governors Way, died Thursday, June 5, 2014, at her residence. She was born September 11, 1944, in Staunton, a daughter of the late Dr. Charles Kirtner and Emma (Clem) Johnson. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School class of 1962. She received her Bachelor's degree from Campbell University and Master's from Indiana University. She also completed additional studies in recreational therapy from the University of Virginia. Ms. Giroux taught physical education in Charlottesville City and Albemarle County and finished her career at UVA Children's Hospital. She was a very giving person; always with a happy heart. She was a member of Hope Community Church. Family members include two sisters, Jerry Lynn Shipplett of Staunton and Jacqueline Mutascio of Hilton Head, SC; five nieces and nephews; and thirteen great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. John C. Peterson, Barbara Sawyer, and Glenn Holman. Burial will follow in Thornose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Peter J. Mutascio, III, Christopher Mark Mutascio, Alexander A. Avery, Marc Russell Clayton, Samuel A. Clem, and Michael M. Clem. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Robert E. Lee High School class of 1962. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
