NORMAN W. OBERG STAUNTON -- Norman Walter Oberg, 94, widower of Luella Mae Yingling Oberg, died at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday (May 19, 2012) at his residence. He was born September 20, 1917 in West Hartford, Connecticut, son of the late Eric and Emily Oberg. His family moved to Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania in 1929. Norman married Luella Mae Yingling in Zanesville, Ohio on May 14, 1941 and celebrated 70 years of marriage together in 2011. They had a busy life together visiting thirty-four countries. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Penn State Ext. School. Mr. Oberg was a thirty-second degree Mason from Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh, joining in 1949. He was an avid golfer with six holes-in-one and two double eagles. Norman also played baseball with the Fayetteville, Arkansas team in the Texas League. When the season was over, he had the honor of pitching against the powerful Homestead Grays from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His favorite baseball team of all time was the St. Louis "Gas House" team of the late thirties and early forties. His favorite actors were Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne and Charlton Heston. His favorite basketball teams to watch were Duke, North Carolina and Connecticut. After moving to Staunton in 1966, following a brief employment with A. S. R., he founded Objective Industries in March of 1967. He was the last member of his family, his brother, Don Oberg, preceding him in death in 1980. Family includes three sons, Ronald Oberg, James Oberg, and David Oberg; a daughter, Marilyn Rimel of Staunton; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be private. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening (May 23, 2012) at Henry Funeral Home.
