Nancy Johnston Kinzer

Nancy Hammond (Johnston) Kinzer, 83, widow of James Leslie Kinzer, Jr., of Staunton, died Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Augusta Health.

She was born October 6, 1937 in Botetourt County, a daughter of the late Abner Nash II and Lena (Hickok) Johnston.

Nancy was a graduate of Natural Bridge High School. Prior to retirement, she was a CNA, dietician, and former chef with S&W Cafeteria.

She was a talented seamstress and loved wearing hats. She also loved gardening, cats, and reading. She was a proud supporter of the Peale Center for Christian Living. She had earned certifications in sewing machine operating, as a CNA and as a clerk/typist.

Family members include a son, George L. “Stormy” Kinzer; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy K. Claywell and Suzanna Howdyshell Stephenson and husband, Fred Stephenson, Jr.; two sisters, Helen Coffey and Martha Hiner; five grandchildren, James Howdyshell and wife, Angela; Virginia Wood, Austin Claywell, Scott Mosher, and Elizabeth Mosher; five great grandchildren, Abigail Wilson, Amelia Wood, Isaiah Howdyshell, Timothy Howdyshell, and Ayden Howdyshell; six special nieces and nephews, Carol, Janice, Jeff, Pamala, Randy, and Abner; her special friends Celena Gutshall, and Janet & Shawn Linen of Florida; and many special friends and neighbors at Gypsy Hill House.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lavinia K. Mosher and a brother, A. N. Johnston III.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. David C. Whitesell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

She was cremated at her request. Burial will be private.
