STAUNTON, VA Patricia Lee (Montague) Higgs, 87, wife of Dr. James Albert Higgs, Jr., of 26 College Circle, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014, in Augusta Health, Fishersville. She was born February 1, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of the late Richard Latané and Martha Grace (McCullough) Montague. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Higgs was employed by Connecticut General, UVA, and was secretary for her husband's medical practice. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Thursday Morning Music Club, the Staunton Choral Society, Staunton Ovation Singers, and Shenandoah Valley Choral Society. She was also a locally well-known pianist who performed in various venues. In addition to her husband, family members include a son, James Blackford Higgs; two daughters, Deborah Anne Higgs of Alexandria and Cynthia Lee Higgs Fulk of Fishersville; four grandchildren, Brian Coakley, John Coakley, Jonathan Fulk, and Audrey Fulk; and a great grandchild, Phoenix Coakley. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean M. Dolan. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2014, in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Mary H. Johns. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Edward B. Higgs, John R. Higgs, Daniel Coakley, Brian Coakley, John Coakley, Jonathan Fulk, and Lee Deacon. Honorary pallbearers will be James B. Higgs, Brooke Deacon, and Audrey Fulk. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 100 E. Frederick Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
