Pauline Cash Stoneburner Carr, widow of Henry Davis Carr, passed away May 9, 2017.  She was born July 25, 1926 in Roanoke, VA, the  youngest daughter of fifteen children born to the late John Thomas (J.T.) and Julia Cash. Mrs. Carr lived her earliest years in Roanoke, moving as a young child with her family to Augusta County on the family farm on Christian’s Creek Road.  She graduated from Beverly Manor High School and Dunsmore Business College.  She started working at General Electric in Waynesboro in 1956, where she was their first female Financial Management program participant.  She retired as financial analyst from General Electric/Genicom.  She continued to enjoy annual get-togethers with her fellow retirees. Pauline was a dedicated life member of Christ United Methodist Church.  She loved her church and church family, having been a Sunday School teacher, president of the United Methodist Women, leading also the district United Methodist Women, and attending many statewide United Methodist church annual conferences.  She made many church friends statewide.  She was appointed to serve on the Board of Trustees of Ferrum College, which she so faithfully served for many years and promoted until her passing. Mrs. Carr was a member of Colfax Rebekah Lodge No. 5 of Staunton and State Lodge No. 1.  Mrs. Carr held many offices in the Rebekah organization, including President of the Virginia Rebekah Assembly and, for many years, served as President/member of the Board of the Odd Fellows’ Home of Virginia in Lynchburg.  She traveled and attended many International Odd Fellows and Rebekah Assemblies with delegates and friends from Virginia.  She continued to attend the annual Odd Fellows and Rebekah Assembly in Roanoke and loved her contact with friends in the organization which promotes Friendship, Love and Truth. Nicknamed “The Road Runner”,  Pauline loved travel  and social events.  She traveled throughout the United States and Europe, where she enjoyed many trips and made many friends overseas.  Mrs. Carr was an avid sports fan, continuing to cheer on teams via her living room.  She was a former basketball player and bowled for many years on local teams.    Family members include her daughters and son-in-law, Charlotte Ellinger and Margaret & Donnie Baker; two grandsons, Benjamin Baker (Wendy) and Michael Baker(Christy); six great-grandchildren, Ally, Jack, Lauren, and Matthew Baker, Lucas and Jake Gluba; brother, Earl B. Cash (Aileen); brother/sister-in-law, Herbert Carr (Brenda), sister-in-law, Betty Carr, numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved and held close to her heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Carr, brothers and sisters, Dreno (Gertrude) Cash, Lois (George) Trayer, Myra (Lee) Kincaid,  Mayme (Lemuel) Myers, Lucille (Ed) Fitzgerald, , Robert (Pearl) Cash, Leonard Cash and several siblings who died in infancy; brother-in-law, Richard Carr; nephews, Junior (Dreno F., Jr.) and Jerry Cash; niece, Patsy Hamilton. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 12 at Christ United Methodist Church.   A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 13 at 2:00 at Christ United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sarah Locke.  Interment will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Scott and John Carr, Billy, Michael, Danny, Steven and Tommy Fitzgerald.  Honorary pallbearers are Hank and Michael Carr, John “Curtis” Cash, Earl David Cash, Bobby Cash, Stevie Cash, James Myers, Rex Greaver and George Weller. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Mrs. Carr to Christ United Methodist Church, 1512 Churchville Ave., Staunton, VA  24401,  the Valley Mission, 1513 W. Beverley St., Staunton, VA  24401 or Ferrum College Advancement Office, PO Box 1000, Ferrum, VA 24088. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
