PHILIP E. CARTER RAPHINE, VA Philip Edward Carter, 62, went to be with The Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. He was surrounded by his loving family. Philip was born March 28, 1951 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington. He was the son of the late James Haskel Carter, and he is survived by his mother, Gilberetta Carter in Greenville. On October 29, 1988, he married his loving wife, Nancy (Rowe) Carter. Philip graduated from Riverheads High School. Philip worked in the trucking industry for over 35 years. Philip was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bear hunting and his hunting dogs were his favorite hobbies. Philip was a member of LifeFlow Pentecostal Holiness Church. He taught the Adult Sunday School class and served as a Deacon and Board Member for many years. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Stephen H. Carter of Staunton. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include a daughter, Genevieve Lamoy and fiancé, Clay Chandler of Staunton; three sons, Philip Carter of Staunton, Daniel Phillips and wife, Shannon of Vesuvius, Scott Phillips and wife, Wendy of Churchville; eight grandchildren, Todd Reese, Jacklyn Lamoy, Emily Chandler, Kieland Chandler, Ashley Puffenbarger, Jacob Phillips, Jaden Phillips and Jarrett Phillips; one great-grandson, Dalton; one brother, Daniel Carter and wife, Barbara of Staunton; sisters-in-law, Christina Carter of Staunton, Chris Hunter and husband, Tommy of Swoope , Doris Knight and Bonnie Farrish, both of Craigsville; brother-in-law, Roger Rowe and friend, Eva of Craigsville; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Philip's life will be held at LifeFlow Pentecostal Holiness Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, with Pastor Rick Handley officiating. Active pallbearers will be James Carter, Jerry Dorey, Yonnie Dorey, Yonnie Dorey, Jr., J. R. Moore, Walter Pultz, Todd Reese, and Chuck Wilhem. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Poor Boy Hunt Club, Billy Cash, Troy Farrish, Ryan Fauver, David Flavin, Scott Flavin, and Steve Johns. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Henry Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
