PHYLLIS L. BALLENGEE STAUNTON, VA On October 12, 2011, Phyllis Lee (McCrory) Ballengee was reunited with her much beloved husband, Dick, and met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Phyllis was surrounded by family and passed peacefully as her brother sang her into heaven. Phyllis was born on June 3, 1928, in Augusta County, the daughter of the late Lee McCrory and LuGene Bradburn. Besides her husband of 62 years (Charles Richard "Dick" Ballengee), Phyllis was preceded in death by her step-father, Leslie Glendye, and her beloved aunt and uncle, Antha Mae "Auntie" and William "Bill" Spitler. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 62 years where she served in various capacities. Phyllis is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Doug Reid and Meda and Ed Sterrett; four grandchildren, Zach Reid, Megan Lowe (Brandon), Abby Morris (Josh), and Lindsey Allen (Davis); and a great granddaughter, Sadie Michele Allen. She is also survived by her beloved brother, Robert "Bobby" L. Glendye and his wife, Glenda; two sisters, Barbara Jean Glendye and Lucinda Metcalf; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Fry and Betty Lou Jackson (Aubrey) as well as various nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 pm. Monday, October 17, 2011 in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Steve Traylor. Burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Phyllis' family members including Doug and Zach Reid, Ed Sterrett, Brandon Lowe, Davis Allen, and Josh Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Glendye, Chuck Blackley, and Glenda Glendye. In honor of Phyllis, the family requests those attending the service, please wear any shade of blue. A special heartfelt thanks to the staff of Emeritus of Staunton (specifically the Memory Care Wing) who truly loved Phyllis and showed it by the stellar care they provided. Thanks also should go to the Hospice of the Piedmont. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Central and Western Virginia Chapter, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Henry Funeral Home.
